Greetings once again from the mighty laptop of Method and Muse! This week, we continue our series on characters with a look into sidekicks and support characters. You know who we’re talking about; those often unappreciated folks that keep our protagonists in check and on target and never seem to get the reward. Well, maybe they get some type of reward, but we, as writers, sure do appreciate them.
This week we discuss the roles that sidekicks can play in your work. Can you have more than one of them? Can a sidekick be the narrator of your story? Can they carry just as much importance to the story as the protagonist or antagonist? Should you ever kill off a sidekick? What should you do if a sidekick starts to become more popular or more important than other characters in your work? The answers to these pressing questions and more can be found by tuning in to our sidekick-a-palooza! You don’t want to miss it! (We were going to offer a free sidekick to every listener, but that just didn’t seem right.)
We may not be giving out free sidekicks, but we’ll still have our regular segments: Old Time Accountability Hour, Ask the Muse, Method to the Madness, and Feed The Fire, so join us for another episode and be amused.
