Howdy Partners! I’m in a western sort of mood today, so that’s what you get. This week’s episode brings us to the topic of “Theme”, you know, that underlying basis for your story. Oh, there’s a bunch of popular themes out there and we’re going to discuss a bunch of them. A “wild bunch” of them, as it were. (See, I told you I was in a western mood.)

Themes are the basic backbone of your story and they give you, the writer, a framework to hang your book upon. They give the reader some knowledge as to what your tale is about. You can simply write about one theme, Love, for instance, or you can use a whole herd of them to make your work  more grand than the untamed frontier of the wild west! Okay, I’ll stop.

Once you start thinking about it, you’ll realize that you’re already familiar with themes and can start using them to your advantage to tell the story you want to tell. Just remember that we’re the ones who got you thinking about it. We’ll take all the credit we can get.
